Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women
Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women (FLOW) is a fund that has been set up by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands to improve the position of women and girls in developing countries. Despite global agreements on the rights, opportunities and safety of women and girls, limited progress has been made in this area and gender inequality is still widespread. This is undesirable, both from a humanitarian point of view and from the point of view of stability and economic health.
Demand for funding continues to exist. A new boost was needed to take forward efforts to combat the inequality faced by women and girls. It has therefore been a logical step to build on existing policies by creating FLOW, with a budget of € 80.5 million for the period between 2012 and 2015. FLOW finances 34 projects focusing on security, economic self-reliance and political participation in more than 100 countries.
On this website you will find information about FLOW and the projects that are financed by FLOW. Also the grantees can find information with regard to the implementation of their project.
Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Co-operation, Mrs. Lilianne Ploumen actively supports the 16 days of Activism campaign on social media and thereby supports many FLOW grantees.
It is with great pleasure that we can announce that the additional budget of € 5 million for Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women (FLOW) has been awarded to 28 grantees.
Advancing women’s rights worldwide has been a long lasting priority of the Dutch foreign policy, and will continue to be a priority of the Dutch government. It gives us great pleasure to announce that for the period between 1 October 2013 and 30 September 2014, the Minister has decided to intensify the FLOW programme. An additional amount of € 5 million is made available to the FLOW grantees to increase the impact of their projects.
On 8 March International Women’s day is celebrated all over the world, naturally this day will not pass unnoticed at the FLOW office either.
In November 2012 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands organised the Women Moving Mountains conference. All grantees from the MDG3 Fund and FLOW, about 60 participants from all over the world, gathered in the Hague to discuss funding for women’s rights.
